How To Use Android Market On A Tablet To Download Apps, Games, Books Movies – Tutorial For Android How to Use Android Market on a Tablet to Download Apps, Games, Books ampamp Movies A Tutorial Hi, and welcome to another article on how to use Android on a tablet PC. And this is Android 4.0, which is the very latest version of Android, but you may well have an earlier version of Android and Ill just point out where things might just look a bit different as we go along. In this article today, were really just looking at how you download applications to your tablet PC, or eBooks, or articles. I can do that by the Android Market. Now most tablets, most higher end tablets, will have Android Market directly on the tablet.

If you havent got that, there are other options or ways around it, but were not going to show that to you in this article. So, if we jump into the Android Market, youre probably going to be greeted with a screen like this. If you arent, the other option you may be greeted with is something that looks like this, where its just a list of applications or eBooks, etc. rather than this kind of rather more stylized version where you may well see some more advertised featured applications, eBooks, etc.

And its quite easy just to scroll back and forth down this. Theres a few things here where we can do some quick links into kind of key areas here gives you games. If you select that tile, there are certain movies that are promoting here and some other applications, eBooks, etc. that theyre kind of promoting to you. Youve also got down the right hand side here the the apps, books, movies and a kind of an option to click one of these tiles and see more.

So if we jump into the apps section, again were given this kind of tiled effect window which we can skim up and down on. Theres a few areas like editors choice, games, staff choice for tablets. Some of this stuff kind of helps you find some of the better applications available for your Android tablet. Now the other thing here though is you can flick left and right and jump to some other alternatives.

So this is the kind of featured screens, if you jump to the left, you get a list of categories where you can kind of quickly jump to a curated list, which is much more round the kind of category youre looking for. So, for example, youve got categories like games, books and reference, business, comics, communication, education, entertainment, finance, healththe list goes on. So, its really up to you as to what youre looking for in terms of categorization. But if you jump to the right, youve then got some other options which are more the kind of the best and most popular applications. So, for example here, weve got the top paid apps and again you can kind of skim down these and it gives you the kind of, well, up to as many as you want in terms of the top 100 etc. or more.

Youve also got the top free applications again you can skim down these. These are the top grossing applications. Weve got the top new applications that are paid. Similarly, youve got the top new free applications and youve got the trending applications, the stuff thats trending at the moment.

So pretty simple actually, if you want to have a look at one of these apps. Lets just look in the free stuff here, because its a bit sort of easier to pick something here. Lets just pick a game, say Bubble Shoot.

Okay, what youre presented here when you tap on something is a lot more information about that application. So first of all youve got some screen shots around here, which you can kind of look back and forth on. Youve got a description which teaches you a bit more about how to play that and you can expand that description, find out some more information on there. Whats New usually covers if theres been a recent upgrades to this application.

There are some ratings and reviews, how many people have rated it in a five star category, and some actual comments. Again, you can see a lot more information on those. Lets step out of that.

Theres also some kind of user generated suggestions by users whove looked at this that also viewed others applications, its a bit of an easier way to quickly find stuff that you might like. And theres some other bits and pieces on here, youve also got things like the people whove actually made this application have made some other applications, some links to some web pages, you can email them directly. Just here centrally is where weve got the number of views and the kind of star rating for this application as a quick way of checking the quality. But youve also got the download box here, so lets say we want to download this, we just tap on the download box, it gives you this kind of pop-up here that tells you what its going to modify on your tablet, so just to confirm you accept that.

And you can kind of expand that, theres some other bits and pieces there. It gives you some more details if you want to click on the more details bit here, the kind of little arrow to the right. But generally, I think if youve got this far, youre just going to press this button here, which is accept and download. So lets do that. So straightaway you get this little kind of status update here which tells you how big it is and how much its downloaded at that stage.

At that stage you actually might just want to notice the X here that you can actually cancel it and stop it from downloading at that stage if you want. But its now got to the point where its downloaded and its ready to open or be uninstalled. So at this point you might want to uninstall it before you open it.

But lets just go straight in and open it. And immediately it jumps straight in there and into the application. Were not going to go into that, Im just going to take you back to the Android Market where we were and pick up from there. You can see downloading an application is pretty straight forward.

Now if we back out of this, lets jump right back to the Market here. Now that was applications, let me take you into books here. Its a similar set up really, you know, again weve got this kind of featured screen with some of the kinds of books theyre promoting on that.

You can jump this way and see categories of books, again, lots of different categories, similar set up to what we saw in apps. If you go to the right, here weve got things like new arrivals in fiction, so again, lots of different books, and lots of different charts of books. Weve also got the new arrivals in non-fiction, top selling, top rated again you can just kind of flick down these, top free books its all pretty straight forward. So again, downloading a book, again, this is a free book, Pride and Prejudice, so were going to have a quick look at that. Again, youve got reviews here, youve got suggestions of users whove also viewed other books, it gives you some help with finding some other alternative stuff if you want that.

Youve got other books by that author, youve got ratings, all that sort of stuff. So lets say we just want to open that. Now to do that youll need the latest Google Books application to read this book. So Im going to okay that and its going to take me to the Android Market version of Google Books.

Okay, so Google Books gives me a bit more information there. Here actuallyI mentioned earlier theres a article where some of these applications have a article that will talk you through the app. So Im just going to click that and it takes you to into YouTube and gives you a little article about the application and shows you what it does.

Now, Im not going to show all of that in this article but you can see what I mean. Now, Im going to install this Google Books application. It comes back again with do I give permission to the different things its going to access on the app and Ill accept and download that. Its downloading again, its showing me how much is complete, its showing me the little X if I want to stop it at that stage. Its still downloading, its installingdifferent messages coming up as we go alongjust telling you where were at.

Its ready to go, lets open that. Its just given me now the books Ive selected to download. Now its a very simple thing actually, lets just jump into that Pride and Prejudice and youve got a kind of fairly standard eBooks application here where you can clickits just loading up here, so its just taking a bit longer here than expectedso you can just click through pages, its fairly straight forward.

You can actually do a few other bits here, like selecting words and looking at dictionary definitions and all that kind of stuff, but Im not going to go into that at this stage. So if we jump back now into the Android Market, so we saw what happened there with books, so the last bit of the Android Market for me to show you is movies. So these are movie rentals.

Again, weve got the feature page. Again we can click to the left and see the categories here, so theres less in the movies here, action and adventure, animation, comedy, documentary, drama, family, and horror. Again, we turn right here, weve got the top rentals kind of chart, so pretty straight forward, its all just loading up there. Weve got new releases, weve got all that in the movies.

So that gives you a brief idea of finding stuff out there. And again, a similar set up, lets say you want to actually download something from thislets click on something hereyou can rent those movie, youve got a little trailer here if you want to see the actual trailer, again it takes you to YouTube to see the trailer. Im not going to take you through that again, but lets back up, youve got a synopsis and you can extend that, you can read user reviews of this, you can rate it, you can look at the cast and creditsall that sort of stuff. And of course, you can press the button here and rent it.

Now, Im not going to rent it at this stage but you can see what Im talking about, because its fairly similar to what we saw in the apps and books, etc. Now, other things you can do with this is weve got a little search up here, so say for example, if I want to pull up other apps I might already know the name of, I might of seen it. Now, I know one called Pulse, this is kind of a news reader application I want to download. And again it gives you anything that comes up in the apps, the books, the movies, depending on where you are in the Android Market.

I want the application there, it immediately jumps you to this, gives you the same information we saw before. Again, I can install and again, its following a similar pattern. Now you dont actually have to wait while its installing in this screen, you can actually jump back to kind of your home screen, it will carry on downloading and it will let you know with a kind of a notification when its downloaded. And you can actually see at the top here, some of these icons are appearing which are short cuts to anything youve download and weve looked at in previous articles at how you can kind of configure those short cuts so theyre a bit easier for you to find or set out exactly as you want to.

But those are now downloaded and again if you want to use those applications its just a case of clicking on them and you can start using them. So thats it really for the Android Market. Im just going to check whether theres anything else I want to show you here. Theres kind of various short cuts that show you what youve downloaded, theres other bits here where you can look at accounts, settings, help screensall this sort of stuff. But there nothing really hugely elsethis other option here actually, which is sharingso if you find an app you really like and you want to share it with someone else, either by Skye, Google, Gmail, email, Bluetooth, all that sort of stuff is possible, but Im not going into any more detail on that.

So thats it for the Android Market. Im sure well come back and use this again in future articles to download applications and books etc. but you can see what its capable of. So well come back to you in future articles showing you how to use your Android tablet PC.
